The Chairman of the commission Prof Mahmood Yakubu has made it clear that INEC announces the number of registered voters on Wednesday 11th January at a meeting with 18 registered political parties in Abuja. He also said that the commission does not have any plan to postpone, shift or cancel the elections and other related activities as has been planned. He rather urged Nigerians to ignore such insinuations.

Further statistics show that Lagos State has the highest number of registered voters at seven million, sixty thousand, one hundred and ninety-five (7,060, 195) followed by Kano state with five million. nine hundred and twenty-one thousand, three hundred and seventy. Ekiti state has Nine hundred and eighty-seven thousand, six hundred and forty-seven (987,647) registered voters making them the third in the ranking list.
